Sasha
Berman is an accomplished floral textile artist & jewelry designer,
amateur musician and folk dancer and rummaging queen extraordinaire. She
writes fiction and poetry. She was initiated into the Wiccan tradition
in 1983, has studied herbalism, and is well-versed in the tools of the
Craft. She has worn the ethnic clothing she sells in her many past lives.
Sasha is well-versed in the customs, traditions, costumes, and music of the Middle East and Eastern Europe, and is a "non-degreed folklorist." She's travelled extensively and her goal is to visit every country in the Middle East and Eastern Europe (in this and future lifetimes).
Obviously, Sasha is "gadji" (other) than Rom, the proper name for those we call" Gypsies". She grew up listening to Ravel's "Carmen", Bartok, who influenced Hungarian Folk/Gypsy Music, Klesmer, soulful and humorous Jewish wedding music and jazz, and was introduced to Theodore Bikel's "Songs of a Russian Gypsy" at 18. She has loved folk dancing and folk music since she was 13, and was given classical violin lessons at 9, which helped to develop her discerning ear. Sasha has been an "outlaw", since her teenage years and embraces and identifies with the people who are fierce, independant and defiant survivers who migrated from North India to Eastern Europe, Anatolia, Spain, Egypt and the rest of the world. Got Moonlight?Sasha has a suitcase filled with passions, skills and experience. She is looking for part-time, low-tech, gratifying work close to home during the weekdays. Contact her if you have a lead!
